Hollywood Quality CGI on Zero Budget: The German
Kudos to filmmaker Nick Ryan! This compelling 10 minute short about a British and German pilot during a WWII dog fight compares in quality to any Hollywood film and the 120 CGI effects shots were all done by one person. Shot in 2007 and completed in 2008, funded in part by The Irish Film Board, the €70K budget was spent shooting all of the live action scenes, leaving no money for effects. According to his Vimeo page Mr.Ryan completed all of the computer effects in six months “entirely” by himself. I dont know how I am just seeing this, the video was posted to Vimeo 3 months ago and has 530,000 views.
There is an interesting piece of trivia that reveals itself in the end I am curious how many people are familiar with this little piece of History.
If you are interested in seeing some of the behind the scenes of the effects work check it out here.
